 SMACKDOWN THE COMPETITION!
By Rich Unger
I have never ever seen so many complacent food and beverage operators in my
life........
I mean, why open and operate, if your simply going to lay over and play dead?
Why invest the money in having a club, a bar, a restaurant, if your simply going to go
through the motions and not make a dent, a motion or an impact on doing some really strong
biz and packing your place? I go to food and beverage websites all over the net and
they are so boring, so outdated, so stale, and so totally "PMFTS" put my feet to
sleep.
Why are bar and club and restaurant owners so reluctant to try something new? I
bang my head against the wall watching so many missed promotion opportunities. If
your in this biz, it is imperative that you capitalize on freshness and newness and fads
and current trends. I am contacted almost every day by clubs that have let their
guard down, by not staying on task.
For instance, what is the next big promotion you are going to present? What is
the next new format you are going to roll out? What is the next new concept you are
going to offer? You have got to take a "smack down" approach to this
business.
I am currently formatting a "Tax Payer's Sweet Revenge" Party for a client, I
have a cash cube, with a huge sign "TAKE BACK YOUR TAXES." I have an Uncle Sam
Dance Review, A $10.40 Menu of steaks and seafood, I have a Sexiest and also most Original
Uncle Sam Costume Contest, I have a W-2 Twist Dance Contest, I will pack this huge
Restaurant/nightclub and make this client over 10k for the night. Why? Because I
never have a dull moment in my promotions, it's non stop action. It's non stop fun,
non stop music, non stop food and beverage. I leave nothing to chance.
The media will cover this event from the TV news to the local newspaper. My Press
releases are dynamite. The key to successful promotions are enticing and inviting
teasers in the way of signs, banners, and early advertising. So many operators don't
want to spring for the expense involved in insuring a packed event, by letting your
patrons and the Community know about the event in time to plan to attend.
I mean really, this should be a no brainer.......... I read message boards on the
nightclub industry on the web, and I am struck by moderators who don't want any
interaction between people on the board, they pose the threat of reporting anyone who
contacts anyone, which is just the opposite of what the food and beverage and hospitality
industry is all about.
Anyway, I read a post where someone said bikini contests are dead, and hot events are
dead, and promotions don't mean a darn thing, the first thing I said to myself was, "
Babe you need to find another vocation." The more excitement, the more
enticement, the more entertainment, the more expansive themes, the better volume and
better head count you will have.
Why so many operators chose to simply ignore spending the money to make money is beyond
me? These lazy operators would rather post a sign "CLOSED FOR RENOVATIONS"
which in reality means, they are out of business, rather than spend the investment
required to pack their place. So many operators have no clue......... They
continue to open to slow to moderate nights of traffic and volume with no interest or
desire to turn it around.
That is why the turnover rate in this industry is so high. Call me, let me pack your
place..........
