BARS, NIGHTCLUBS, RESTAURANTS, THERE ARE NO LIFE LINES AND THIS AIN'T NO
GAME SHOW! A MUST READ!
by Rich Unger
So fox got burned on their 'who wants to marry a multimillionaire" show. It was
only a matter of time......just like so many bars, nightclubs, lounges and restaurants all
over the world get burnt by bad promotions, bad promoters, poor advertising, poor
atmosphere, terrible service and disgusting music.
Only unlike Regis and his millionaire show, in the food and beverage industry, there are
no life lines, and the tragic part is, every bar manager, every restaurant manager, every
club owner thinks they know it all, and sadly and unfortunately they never do...........
promotions, marketing, advertising are a skill, a talent, a track record, experience, a
knack for, a hands on grasp of, and an inherent ability.
I read the message board of a supposed consulting service on nightclubs on the web, and
these two guys, Joey and Mikey have no clue as to what to advise people asking for
direction and advice. Yhey speak in such circles, first of all, as a club manager or
bar manager or even owner, I would ask them, "have you ever owned your own club"
secondly I would ask them" what experience do you have in giving out the advice you
are?" Thirdly "what clients did you and do you presently represent?"
Regretfully none of this information or answers to any of these questions are found on
their site. Also, why must they fly down to your club to do an evaluation and spend
all
your money on airfare, hotels, meals, time, car rental? and then charge the
club owner all of these expenses? Why? I provide a much deeper and specific
overview of your entire operation and I don't have to leave my office.
Because, I ask you 45 questions that you must answer in full detail, I ask you to
provide me a floor plan and photos of your entire operation inside and out and I ask you
to send me copies of all of your marketing and advertising, and then within 96 hours, I
Fed Ex back to you the finished product, your own, 'customized analytical overview' of
your entire operation.
I have been doing this for twenty years....I show you, your weaknesses, your strengths,
what you need to stop doing, start doing and change that your doing in all areas and
phases of your entire operation.
I urge you not to pay I repeat, don't pay for people who say they are experts to fly
down to critique your club, when you have no idea who they are, what they are, and what
they know? Then there's the gentleman who is shown posing in his luxury speed boat
from all the money he made at his nightclub and he tells you that you too can make huge
money in your club, if you only order his book for $19.95 plus shipping and handling.
I mean, I almost rofl at how unreal and misleading this entire pitch is.
This book is suppose to answer all your questions, address all your concerns and
problems and once again, without ever asking you question one that specifically pertains
to your operation? I mean I just don't get why anyone would order this book?
As for food and beverage promotions, I create new concepts every single week, I can
take a hot tv show, a new movie, a best seller book, a fad in fashion, a hot song, a up
and coming music group and warp around a food, beverage and high energy promotion that
will pack a club for a full six hours...........I just did it for a huge waterfront
upscale nightclub/restaurant. From the decor, to the giveaways, from the radio spots
to the contests, from the entertainment to the special food and beverage menus to the
employee dress and finally to hosting the entire event and scheduling the time table,
I do it all....I made the client $15,000 in one day and night of a disco promotion.
I eat, sleep and breathe this industry, and you can't possibly get accurate and
specific information tailored to your operation from a consulting firm that Joey and Mikey
simply throw and spew generic info at you from. Again, I ask, what are their
credentials for posing as experts?
Mine, I state on the front of my web page, I have ten pages of references, to provide
my clients with, funny, they never ask, after chatting with me on the phone. I know
my stuff and I know what it takes to turn a sagging club around. I am amazed anyone
would ask a general question that pertains to the welfare of their food and beverage
operation to people they have no clue as to who they are and then take this advice when
the givers of it, have no hands on info to base their remarks on?
Somebody please stick a shot glass in my eye, because for the life of me, I just don't
get it. There are no life lines in this biz, you either get it or you don't.
If your not packed, if your struggling, if your letting your competition beat you up day
in and night out, if your biz has slipped and your numbers are way down, if you've become
to complacent, then call me, fax me, contact me, email me, you need help and I am here to
help you. No contract to sign, no scam, no nonsense. And I can't answer and
address your problems without a great deal of information.
I love this biz, but I detest people preying on unsuspecting owners and managers by
appearing to be experts when in fact, they have never ever even owned a club.
You can attend all the conventions and seminars you like, but you can't apply any of
the promotions, the concepts, the themes, the techniques to your club, unless you first
take your club and put it up against what you want to do, on a one on one basis and on a
how it will affect, what it will affect, how it will benefit, what is the downside, how
can I reach my core market and will this new idea benefit and profit me in the long run.
That is what I strongly suggest you do, before you incorporate any new concept, idea,
theme night, promotion, marketing strategy. And never ever sign a
contract......either you can test market it, or you are not interested in it. why be
committed to something that may or may not work for you?
Oh by the way, I have owned 4 clubs......and they have been huge in size, and huge
successes.
I love big, bigger, biggest clubs..........
