WHY ARE NIGHTCLUBS, GIVING THE BAR AWAY TO DO BIZ?
By Rich Unger

I am baffled by the strategies that Nightclubs use to bring patrons in.  Drink Specials galore, I mean from free drinks to nickel beers to Sink or Swim Nights.  I would like to pose this question to all of these Managers and Owners, why is the focus of your marketing and the thrust of your promotions strictly
centered on discounting liquor and beer?

Are their creative juices so dried up, that the only way they can create traffic and volume is to give the bar away?  I can think of and formulate Twenty Club Packing Promotions that have absolutely nothing to do with drink specials, and that will pack any club.

Why is it so easy to give draft away for 75 cents or a buck, and to give liquor away cheap, then it is to profit off the liquor 100% and pack your club with a killer promotion that will capture the imagination of your local Community and also enhance your club's status and rap?

I call it the "Club Cop Out."

And I see it happening more than ever before.  I am all for Brand Parties, and discounted shots on specific brands when they are being featured, but I am totally against this constant barrage of cheap, cheaper, cheapest drinks to bring in patrons.

What Clubs don't realize is, that the caliber of clientele they are targeting is a drinker with only the price of the drink on their mind.  What happened to clubs jam packed for their promotions, their atmosphere,
their DJ's, their cutting edge format?  The worst of the "Club Cop Outs" is the Sink or Swim Night, I am guilty of presenting them myself.

I know first hand that 800 patrons at $10 a person equals $8,000.  Not bad for a week night's gross.  But the flip side is the outrageous behavior, the damage to the club, the excessive and constant cursing, and the overall environment that is caused by this Drink Concept.

When you place the emphasis on just the drink special, and you are doing a tremendous amount of volume, you are opening yourself and your club up to a high risk of liquor liability.  I have emphasized to my Clients over and over, to follow my blueprint for packing their clubs, by creating promotions that focus on their patrons and not on giving liquor away.

But Please stop using drink specials as the only lure to seduce your patrons, you are way behind the times...... And your hurting your liquor costs BIG TIME!!!
