NIGHTCLUBS & BARS,TOO MUCH $ INVESTED

Why do so many "Partners with Capital" over
invest in nightclubs and bars, leaving no funding left for "THE WAR
CHEST".
It happened again in Fort Lauderdale, friends
for years, one puts up hundreds of thousands of dollars to refurbish a
club,
only to see his partner fall flat on his face
in generating revenue and profits.
Over and over and over again, I am perplexed at
the lack of thought in the planning of financial expenditures that go
beyond construction and turn key, but are
are set aside for marketing, promoting and
packing the club or bar?
This Owner never spoke to his Partners about
"THE FUN" or "THE WOW FACTORS" from his spiel, ( Yiddish word) they
assumed he had the knack for taking action, but instead is
simply spinning his wheels, with slow and next
to dead nights.
PLEASE, do not waste my time if you do not have
the authority and ability to ACT.
If you have Partners, I suggest you call me
with a conference call, having them on the phone so everyone is on the
same page at the same time.
If your partners are out of town and not active
in the day to day operation either you have to step up to the plate and
act as if, act as if
your going to do what it takes to pack this bar
or club, and DO IT.
Or, simply put up the "CLOSED FOR REMODELING"
sign and shut it down.
There is no in-between, because in-between is
on the verge of closing.
This partner is a classic.
This Partner in Fort Lauderdale puts a listing
on "Craigs List" for club promoters, I thought I had seen it all.
But there are more "CLUELESS" Owners out there,
then even I, imagined.
This club has the wrong decor, the wrong theme,
the wrong marketing, the wrong promotions, the wrong Ownership.
The tragedy is this club is located right in
the hub of other bars and clubs that it should be feeding off of, but no
one
is going into this club.
Since this Club is experiencing a no focus, no
crowd foundation, you would think this active Partner would of held a
"Spectacular Cinco De Mayo" Night, nope,
instead he did nothing.
NOTHING....................................................................He
did not even open. ( banging my head on my desk )
He has no set Summer Promotion Plan of any
kind. (smacking myself in the face)
Often the ego of owning a club creates an
overabundance of confidence, that creates a major tendency on the part of
those partners with the cash flow to overspend on Building and under spend
on Promotions.
While another impacting factor is, the major
lack of expertise on the part of those active partners who boast of their
abilities, yet once in charge never accomplish what they said they could,
nor know how to do.
Talk about 50% of the marriages in America
failing, I can assure you the percentage of bar and club partnerships
dissolving is
far greater.
SO MANY OWNERS JUST DO NOT GET IT.
FINALLY, I HAVE SOME OWNERS TELLING ME, 'I AM
SO TIRED OF MY PARTNER OR PARTNERS AND THEIR IDEAS THAT NEVER WORK, WE ARE
LOSING MONEY AND THEY KEEP THROWING DARTS AGAINST A BOARD HOPING ONE HITS
ANYWHERE TO SCORE POINTS.
THESE OWNERS ARE REACTING NOW AND NOT
SIMPLY GOING ALONG WITH THESE NO
KNOWLEDGE, NO EXPERIENCE, NO GRASP, NO INSIGHT, NO FORESIGHT PARTNERS.

WISER, SMARTER AND BOLDER THAN YOU ARE, YOU CAN TURN ANY ESTABLISHMENT
AROUND. TAKE THE OWNER OF A CLUB IN INDIANA, THE CLUB IS DYING, THE OWNER
HAS TAKEN IT FROM TRANCE TO ALTERNATIVE, FROM FOUR NIGHTS A WEEK TO NOW
OPEN JUST TWO NIGHTS A WEEK.
THE OWNER WANTS TO RENAME THE CLUB
WHAT IT WAS KNOWN AS, TEN YEARS AGO IN IT'S HEYDAY.
THE PROBLEM IS, NOBODY CARES.
HERE IS AN OWNER WHO RATHER THEN
ACCEPT CHANGE AND ADJUSTING, HE IS GOING TO BE CLOSED BY JULY.
I ATTEMPT TO REACH OUT TO ALL THESE
OWNERS, I EXPLAIN IN SIMPLE TERMS THEIR MISTAKES AND MY SOLUTIONS, BUT
RATHER THAN DO WHAT TRUMP SAYS TO DO, THEY WOULD SIMPLY CHOOSE TO CLOSE.
THE WORSE PART OF A CLUB CLOSING IS
NOT THE OWNER WHO REFUSED EXPERTISE TO TURN HIS BAR OR CLUB AROUND, BUT
THE BAR BACKS, THE BARTENDERS, THE WAIT STAFF, THE DJ, THE DOOR PERSONNEL,
ALL THE EMPLOYEES WHO ARE NOW OUT OF WORK, NOT BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T DO
THEIR JOBS, BUT BECAUSE THEIR OWNER DIDN'T DO HIS.

to serve beer and liquor.

HOURS TO DISCUSS HIS OPERATION.
HE IS IN A MINDSET FROM AN ERA LONG
GONE.
HE USES CHALK BOARDS AND
BLACKBOARDS, BUT WILL NOT ALLOW STYLISH TRENDY BANNERS THAT ARE FAR
MORE UPDATED THEN HIS
UNPROFESSIONAL, LAME PRESENTATION.
WHEN YOUR FEATURING $20 AND $25
DISHES, A CHALK BOARD OR MAGIC MARKER DOES NOT DO YOUR FOOD JUSTICE.
HE CATERS TO A DEMOGRAPHIC THAT IS
LONG IN BED BY 8PM.
HE CANNOT GRASP HOW TO REACH THE
"PARTY HOUR PATRONS".
I REMARKED THAT HIS ENTIRE
ESTABLISHMENT HAD "ZERO ENERGY, NO ATMOSPHERE, NO FEELING OF BEING
SOMEWHERE SPECIAL", HE TOTALLY
AGREED.
AS WE WATCHED BOAT AFTER BOAT PASS
BY, I FURTHER REMARKED, 'NOT ONE OF THESE BOATS EVEN COMES IN
TO DOCK AND DINE HERE".
AGAIN, HE REPLIED " YOUR RIGHT".
HE WAS DEVASTATED THAT HE HAD
10% CAPACITY, IF EVEN THAT MANY FOR "MOTHER'S DAY".
BUT THEN I ASKED HIM "WHAT DID YOU
DO TO REACH OUT TO THAT MARKET?" HE RESPONDED " NOTHING, I JUST THOUGHT
THEY WOULD COME".
HE MADE SOME REMARKS TO HIS FEMALE
STAFF THAT I FELT WERE BORDERLINE AND ADVISED HIM THAT HE WOULD
BE SUBJECT TO
POTENTIAL LEGAL REPERCUSSIONS, IF HE CONTINUED WITH SUCH STATEMENTS.
HE PAID OVER A MILLION DOLLARS
PLUS, FOR THE PROPERTY AND THE ESTABLISHMENT.
HE HAS BEEN OPEN 8 MONTHS AND IS
NOWHERE NEAR THE POTENTIAL THIS BEAUTIFUL LOCATION HAS.
HE REALLY DOES NEED TO REVAMP,
RETHINK HIS ENTIRE FORMAT TO BE SUCCESSFUL, BUT HE IS SO UNFOCUSED
THAT I DOUBT HE EVER WILL.
HE HAS A VERY NONCHALANT APPROACH
TO HIS ENTIRE FRONT OF THE HOUSE OPERATION, WHEN HIS CHEF CAME
OUT WITH TWO NEW DISHES HE WORKED
REALLY DILIGENTLY ON PREPARING, THE OWNER ACTED AS IF HE COULD
CARE LESS AND EXPRESSED NO
APPRECIATION, INTEREST OR COMPLIMENT TO THE CHEF.
HE DID NOT EVEN TASTE EITHER DISH.
HIS OVERALL MANAGEMENT STYLE IS WAY
TOO EXCESSIVE WITH DRINKING WHILE WORKING.
HE WEARS A PAIR OF WORN OUT SURFER
SHORTS, A STAINED T-SHIRT, SANDALS, AND LOOKS VERY DAZED AND CONFUSED.
HE OPENS ON NIGHTS DURING THE WEEK
WHEN HE SHOULD BE CLOSED, HE SPENDS MORE OPERATING ON MONDAYS
THEN HE GENERATES IN CASH FLOW.
HE WOULD BE WISE TO CLOSE MONDAYS
AND EVEN TUESDAYS DURING THIS TIME OF YEAR.
HE IS NOT MAKING A PENNY ON EITHER
DAY, THERE IS NO LOSS TO BE CLOSED, CONSOLIDATE HIS EXPENSES, HIS
PAYROLL, HIS OVERHEAD.
HE AGREES, BUT THEN TAKES NO ACTION
TO REVAMP, RETHINK HIS OVERALL OPERATION.
HE IS PLANNING A COOKOUT FOR
MEMORIAL DAY, WHEN I ASKED WHAT HIS MARKETING PLAN WAS, HE REPLIED " I
HAVE NONE".
WITH TWO HOURS SPENT THERE, IT WAS
MY CUE TO

HIS FOOD PRICES ARE WAY TOO HIGH.
HIS WEB SITE PUTS YOUR FEET TO
SLEEP.
AGAIN, I TRIED TO HELP HIM PACK HIS
PLACE, BUT EGO AND ARROGANCE WERE HIS MISCUE.
THERE IS MONEY TO BE MADE WHEN THE
FELT IS EMPTY.
WHEN THE RACKS ARE HANGING.
BILLIARDS ESTABLISHMENT OWNERS HAVE
SOME KIND OF MINDSET THAT THEY CANNOT ADAPT, ADJUST OR APPLY NEW "FUN"
OR "WOW FACTORS" WITHOUT
JEOPARDIZING THEIR POOL SHOOTING PATRONS.
WRONG, THAT WOULD BE A SCRATCH.
